About me

Welcome! My name is Hana, and I am a master’s student in the Department of Geosciences at Virginia Tech. I study aquatic environments—from rivers to the coast—to understand their current status and predict how they may change in the future. Over time, my work has grown in scale through the use of remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) techniques.

I am a native of Virginia and earned a B.S. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Virginia in 2019. After graduation, I worked for several years as a contractor at the U.S. Geological Survey Wetland and Aquatic Research Center in Louisiana, then returned to Virginia in 2023 for graduate studies at VT (making me one of the few, proud Hoo/Hokies!). As a member of the Global Rivers Group advised by Dr. George Allen, I am using data from the new Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) satellite to observe flow waves and hysteresis relationships between turbidity and discharge on large rivers. In my free time, I enjoy spending time outside, making crafts, and traveling (both near and far).
